Rotary Screen/Trommel (Pulp & Paper)

The pulp slurry enters the rotating drum, where wedge wire or perforated screen surfaces separate the pulp stream into fines and retained solids. The rotary action ensures the even spread of fiber, and the screen slope and rotation direction optimize drainage and particle rejection.

Model

Multitech Rotary Drum Screen – Pulp Screening Edition
  • Screen Type: Cylindrical rotating wedge wire screen
  • Slot Opening: 0.25 mm to 2.0 mm (customizable based on fiber recovery)
  • Inclination Angle: 3° to 6°
  • Construction Material: SS 304 / SS 316L
  • Spray System: High-pressure flat-cone nozzles for auto-cleaning
  • Drive System: Chain or direct shaft-driven motor with variable speed control
  • Capacity: Engineered to suit specific paper mill flow rates and fiber load

Use

Rotary Screens (Trommels) in the pulp and paper industry are used for coarse and fine screening of pulp, removal of plastic, fiber knots, bark, and heavy debris, and enhancing fiber recovery from white water and recycled pulp streams.

Description

The first 30% of the screen is designed for maximum pulp drainage, while the remaining 70% facilitates gentle dewatering. A high-pressure spray system ensures continuous cleaning, reducing maintenance and keeping throughput consistent.

The retained debris (knots, plastics, etc.) is discharged from the non-drive end, while screened pulp or white water is collected beneath the screen for reuse or further refining.

Key Advantages

  • Effective removal of heavy rejects and coarse contaminants
  • Protects downstream refiners and paper machines
  • High fiber recovery improves overall yield
  • Self-cleaning mechanism ensures uninterrupted operation
  • Durable stainless-steel construction suited for corrosive pulp environments
  • Low maintenance and long service life with minimal moving parts
  • Available in modular designs for custom capacity needs
