Rotary Screen/ Trommel

Multitech’s Rotary Screen works on a wedge wire cylindrical drum mounted horizontally and sloped to facilitate efficient juice drainage. As the drum rotates, juice containing suspended solids enters from the drive end through a distributor. The screened juice passes through the wedge bars into a sloping half-cylinder trough, ensuring rapid flow into the juice collection tank and preventing stagnation — a key design to reduce Leuconostoc bacterial growth.

Use

The Rotary Screen is used in sugar manufacturing for continuous screening of mill raw juice. It separates fine bagacillo particles from the juice, reducing contamination and improving processing quality. Its precision design enhances juice recovery and hygiene, making it essential for efficient clarification and downstream operations.

Description

The first 30% of the screen ensures maximum juice removal, while the remaining 70% facilitates further dewatering of solids. Solid particles continue rolling and are eventually discharged at the non-drive end into the plant’s screw conveyor for onward handling.

A unique advantage of Multitech’s rotary screen is its modular segment design — if a screen segment needs replacement, it can be changed individually without replacing the entire drum, significantly reducing maintenance downtime and cost.
